About
“I’ve had a blessed career.”
The origin story of Lamont Ferguson’s comedy doesn’t recount like that of your typical superhero with a radioactive explosion or an exposure to gamma rays. It does consist of circumstances that could best be described as destiny. The oldest of 4 siblings, living in what used to be labeled as “middle class” in Pomona, California; one day, his mother took him and his sisters to the Pomona public library. There he found his way down into the basement. A place where the albums and cassette tapes were kept. He happened upon a five album collection of radio shows from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. The 8 year old comedy prodigy listened to those albums over and over; studying the timing, the economy of the wording, the delivery and timing of jokes. The seed of comedy took root within the 8-year-old Ferguson. He used his arsenal of comedic tools to secure the student body presidency in the 8th grade at his Junior High School. His opponent still claims that there was election tampering.
Fast forward to Ferguson making his stand-up comedy debut at the World-Famous Comedy Store in La Jolla, CA. at the ripe old age of 17. In the vast 40+ years since that debut, Lamont Ferguson has gone onto become one of the best comedians to ever step up to the mic.
